Katy
Welcome to my web site, and thank you for your interest in my work! I write from our home near Port Townsend, Washington. After a lifetime in Alaska where we raised our sons, my husband and I relocated to this beautiful part of the Olympic Peninsula. I am still affiliated with the Artique, Ltd. in Anchorage. I have a new association with Vamp & Tramp, Booksellers (www.vampandtramp.com) who represent my artists' books.
My blog begins with the new year - called "her spirits rose..." - I hope you will look for it - http://katygilmore.wordpress.com.
For the last 24 years, I’ve explored images of everyday objects (including most often flowers and gardens) on quilts, artists’ books, and in watercolor on paper. I've exhibited the products in more than 19 solo shows and many group shows.
Making art from flowers and gardens has led to some wonderful adventures – from an installation at the Decker/Morris Annex Gallery in Anchorage featuring a window garden full of herbs, geraniums, green grass, and a leafed-out tree (in April Alaska) to writing about a three day visit to England’s Sissinghurst Castle Garden.
I’ve included in the "Other" section some samples of the articles I enjoyed writing for the Anchorage Daily News and information about the daybook I wrote and illustrated, The Year in Flowers, published by Alaska Northwest Books. Also posted there will be new work in acrylic from the show this fall. The new category titled "Foldbooks" features photos from two series of artists' books I made in 2008.
Long ago, I earned a BA in English from Alaska Methodist University and an MA in Illustration from Syracuse University.
